Spooky Halloween is a little washed out right now

So I'm gearing up to do Halloween, Etsy style here at the Bakery.  I searched EVERYWHERE for the perfect skull and crossbones for a great cupcake topper and I finally found it.  I anxiously stuffed fondant into him and plopped him into a 2 1/2" round and this is what I got.  I liked it, but.... it was missing something.  I'm thinking he needs a more complex background and his features need a little ivory rubbed into it so they stand out more.  You can't really see how awesome he looks because he looks washed out.
Don't worry though, he's going to look awesome when I'm done with him

Hydrangea Photography

The light was beautiful today!!!  These photos are soo stunning, the light was so perfect I didn't need to fix anything with my photoshop.  I've had that rose vase for the longest time.  It was sitting on my shelf being eye candy and I never thought to use it with my flowers.  The white porcelain helps reflect light back onto the flower and it hides the funky florist wire too.

{{Featured!}} Martha Stewart's "Dreamers Into Doers"

A photo of mine (the little "Amelie'" sign with the flowers) became a feature on Martha Stewart's "Dreamers Into Doers" website.  Yes it's a small feature but I'm living the dream!  Hopefully it will get me into the spotlight more and that's definitely a plus.

Sweet Petal is adding birthdays to her repertiore!

Here are some new designs I was working on for the shop.  Want to do more birthdays and more exciting things for everyone, not just brides!  Maybe they can come back after their wedding and order baby shower things!

Pretty Pinks and Oranges

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I LOVE my airbrush system (dubbed the name 'Bettie').  I get beautiful colors like this hot fuchsia pink to pop out and never fade on a flower.

This week it seems a lot of customers are totally loving the colors of hot pink and orange and are ordering them for their cakes; be it a wedding cake, baby shower cake or birthday.  The hues go really well together!

Vintage Ivory and Jet Black

I love this combination of colors.  Fluttery rose petals and ruffled black hydrangeas (yes, this color exists as real flowers!) make this arrangement look gorgeous atop a wedding cake.

A Charming Red

This was one my first orders I received this year and I'm finally finishing up her order just in time for her wedding.  I love this peony.  It just makes me smile when I look at it.  The little beauty starts out as a bunch of petals on wires.  After they dry I wire them together with some chopped lengths of cotton string and voila!  A gorgeous focal piece to a well designed wedding cake!  ::sigh:: it's magic..

Sugar Mimic

A customer saw my cherry blossom branches and asked if I could recreate the details for a cake she saw.  Here is the photo:
I'm sorry I don't know the proper credits for this photo but if anyone knows, do tell!

Here is the recreation:
The photos are a little crude because I had to hurry up and box this order, so ignore the slight powdering of cornstarch and the folds in the back.  Sooo, let me direct you to the vibrant blocks of colors!  I love the colors.  They go so well together.  It's kind of retro, almost like it mimics an invitation for a baby shower.

Here check out this inspiration board from Dimple Prints.  Cake goes right with it!

{{Etsy Treasury}} My favorite Etsy treasury

I've been lucky enough to be selected into 28 treasuries (yes I counted!) since I've re-opened the shop in January and one of my favorites is this one cleverly curated by BStudio.  Take a look through it.  The art is amazing and CHEEKY!  And I have to say, the beautifully coordinated colors of aqua and lemon certainly makes the masterpiece pleasing to mine eye.  Look closely, my dogwood branches are among the pretties!  Here's the link that takes you to the treasury.
